New addition to the Zaan housing market: the Crown

On Provincialeweg near the Volkspark, residents and home seekers can get ready for the arrival of 67 brand-new condominiums in Zaans industrial style. Last week, Alderman Songül Mutluer (Housing and Construction) signed the anterior agreement with developer Investment Company BS b.v.. The design comes from Bureau FKG architecten aan de zaan. 

The complex will be located on the former BAM industrial site off Mauritsstraat and consists of four linked "residential factories" and a "shed. Architect Patriek Duisdecker of FKG: "The Verkade factory buildings in the vicinity are an important carrier and source of inspiration. Thus we connect to the rich past, but transform the place into a character all its own. In a contemporary way, beautifully masonry bricks, large vertical facade openings, concrete, steel, rhythm and industrial elements such as loading doors and lifting beams are translated into a new architecture."

The apartments will have areas ranging from 40 to 80 m² and different price ranges with an initial range of € 185,000 - € 215,000 and rising to € 350,000. It is being investigated whether (part of) the apartments can be put on the market through Affordable Purchase Housing Zaanstad (BKZ), with which buyers will receive the land on a long lease. This will make the Kroon accessible to a larger group of people. Alderman Songül Mutluer: "High-quality new construction in typical Zaan style in the center area must also be affordable for starters and the elderly."

One step closer to Zaan housing ambition

The signing of the antecedent agreement before the Crown will soon follow in a row of signatures. Similarly, last week they signed for the Tijdgeest (306 rental apartments) and just last month for the Zaanse Helden (600 rental and owner-occupied apartments, of which 160 are social rental), both in the Zaans Hout neighborhood.

The signing of anterior agreements is an important step forward in Zaanstad's ambition to build 1,000 housing units per year. The aim is not only to increase the supply, but also to make it more diverse, so that soon there will be something for every wallet to choose from.

After signing the antecedent agreement, the way is clear for the developers to submit the building application. The prospect before the Crown is that construction can begin at the end of this year.
