To make Het Element in Amersfoort fireproof, Saber Fire Protection was called in. Once the building was wind and watertight, they provided the entire steel structure with a fire-resistant coating. After the installations were mounted, they sealed all penetrations.
Thus, Saber Fire Safety gave a total of 860 linear meters of steel the treatment required to make Het Element optimally fireproof. For each profile, Saber's specialists determined what layer thickness was needed to do this. "An H-beam partially inserted into the wall requires less protection than an H-beam inserted freely," says Edgar van Leeuwen, director of Saber Fire Safety. "Many times the desired fire protection requirements are specified in the specifications. In that case, we know that the protection meets the requirements of the Building Code and all we have to do is install it. If there are no specifications, we figure out for the customer what is required."
There is no lack of knowledge within Saber Fire Safety. Director/owner Van Leeuwen began his career at a manufacturer of fire-resistant coatings and fluids and took several courses in fire protection. Fire safety was the common thread in his career for more than 25 years. In 2016, he started he own company, which now has more than 14 professionals. They think along with fire safety consultancies, property owners and the building industry in the Netherlands, so that a fire does not spread from one room to another. They seal penetrations in walls, ceilings and floors, make steel structures optimally resistant to collapse and thus create safe escape routes. "Our people save lives and buildings."
