When the Waterside II complex is almost completely standing, it's time for the detailed finishing touches. Cladding Partners will provide the facades with custom-made elements of aluminum composite and coated aluminum. This involves typesetting and cassettes, which will be applied to the piers (such as the sidewalls of the balconies).
"About two and a half years ago, general contractor STATON Bouw asked us to help think about this project," says estimator Dinant Timmerman of Cladding Partners. "Then we worked as a team to look at what materials were coming in and what we could do with them. We walked through the work together and figured out which materials could best be used." The choice fell on aluminum composite and coated aluminum, done in gold and black. "It's not about large surfaces, but purely about the aesthetic details. Among other things, we install typesetting and cassettes on the piers. Everything custom-made: it is set and milled especially for this project."
A big job to install all this on the 124 homes, but in terms of preparation it is not too bad. Says Timmerman, "The drawing work is mostly done and the custom elements have been ordered. It involves a lot of meters in total, but basically the installation is repetitive work."
The idea is that the assembly will take place when construction is already quite finished. "Then fewer parties will come after us to work on the facade and we can avoid damage. I expect that our work will sometimes stop in between to wait for the contractor to
so far."
It's not often that apartment facades feature this particular detailing, Timmerman says. "It's obviously a very beautiful building to work on. It was a bit of a figuring-out puzzle for us, but now the assembly can proceed quickly and well. Especially important is the coordination with the contractor and our supplier. Fortunately, we did not suffer from material shortages, because the preliminary process had been going on a bit longer and we were able to order in time."
