The new Dutch headquarters of DPG Media will be an absolute eye-catcher. Both on the outside and inside, quality and craftsmanship reign supreme. The special stairs of Trappenfabriek Vermeulen match this perfectly. A total of eight well-shaped spiral staircases and two sleek vertical stairs will lead employees and visitors in style to the right floors.
Trappenfabriek Vermeulen is a committed and experienced manufacturer and supplier of wooden and steel stairs, having all disciplines in-house. From material procurement to production and assembly. "Since our establishment in 1958, we have made more than 400,000 wooden and steel stairs," says Corné Mol, Director of Steel Stairs at Trappenfabriek Vermeulen. From standard stairs to specials." The stairs for Mediavaert definitely fit into the latter category. "Because of the large size of the stairs, steel structures were chosen. Whereas the outside will soon have a white finish, the inside will be stylishly covered with oak treads, risers and cheeks. In doing so, the stairs perfectly match the wood-hybrid character of
the new building."
Because of the wood-hybrid construction, the stairs are not moment fixed but are hinged per floor, Mol says. "At our factory in Etten-Leur, all the sheet steel for the stairs was cut to size. The profiles were also cut to size, after which the stair components were rolled to the correct radius on a special roller. Subsequently, the stairs were assembled per floor, welded together and provided with an anti-corrosion adhesion primer. The floor-high stair components were transported overnight and by special transport to the construction site in Amsterdam, where they were lifted in through the roof. Here our own assembly team stood in for the assembly." Meanwhile, in the background, the wood department of Trappenfabriek Vermeulen is busy preparing the oak components, which will provide the finishing touches to the stairs from late 2023/early 2024.
The spiral staircases have a radius of 1,900 mm, Mol says. "The staircase at the entrance even has a radius of 2,280 mm! Another special feature is the double cheek with extra handrail in sight. Such architectural details as well as the large size of the project make high demands on our engineering, production and assembly, but we don't turn our hand to that. In Mediavaert, our employees can really show their expertise and craftsmanship."
