Yellow, green and red roofs for new PCS construction

Numerous square footage for additional utilization

The view of roofs is currently undergoing rapid development. Whereas the traditional roof was mainly there to drain precipitation as quickly as possible, today we distinguish yellow roofs for the installation of solar panels, green roofs for sedum vegetation, red roofs for extra living space and blue roofs for water retention.

Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek is providing the roofing for PCS' new office, installing a yellow roof, a green roof and a red roof here. "Choosing multiple types of roofing is now more the rule than the exception," says Remon Nieuwenhuizen, director of Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek. "It offers countless square meters for additional utilization."

Quality assurance

Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek is a roofing company where quality is number one. Assignments - whether they involve inspection, maintenance, renovation or new construction - are never outsourced, but consistently carried out by the company's own team of professionals. The company has built in additional quality assurance by cooperating with TECTUM, the training center for the bituminous and plastic roofing industry. In addition, Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek is a member of trade association VEBIDAK. "In all the works we carry out, we follow the guidelines as established by this association," he says.

Cradle-to-Cradle

The challenge of applying roofing materials for PCS according to Cradle-to-Cradle standards is not new to Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek. For this it replaces the bitumen with the thermoplastic TPO. This plastic is processed in strips and attached only in the overlaps, so that the roofing can be dismantled relatively easily. The fastening is done without using open flames in the process. "So there is also less risk of fire," he says.

Thinking along

Some 1,000 m2 of roofing was installed at PCS; 700 m2 for the upper roof and 300 m2 for the perimeters. "We started at the upper roof. Initially we were not going to tackle the first and second floor roofs until the frames were in. On reflection, we did this earlier. As a result, the building was wind and watertight as soon as the window frames were installed. Thinking along, that's in our genes. Especially now that developments are going so fast, we can provide our clients with a lot of benefits by thinking along and exploring all the possibilities as soon as possible - preferably as early as the design phase." For the work at PCS, Nieuwenhuizen Daktechniek worked with the Green Roof Coach. "An inspired partner in green roofing."
