In the second half of 2023, the extension and new construction of producer Sif's monopile factory at the Maasvlakte emerged: 52,400 m² of new halls for the production and assembly of components for offshore foundations. For volume reasons, the steel structures of the halls were carried out by several parties in a short period of time.
Reijrink Staalconstructie constructed the lighter halls, including the lighter crane girders, for contract contractor Iemants Eiffage, which constructed the heavier halls and crane girders (maximum 70 tons). Commercial director Eric van Dooren of Reijrink: "The previously built halls A and B have been expanded. Two newly built halls are respectively for rolling/welding and assembly of XXXL monopiles, such as the foundations of offshore wind turbines. For civil and structural work such as foundations and concrete floors, Sif Group engaged Dura Vermeer; Iemants is contract contractor for the wind- and watertight steel structures, including the concrete skirting around, facades and roofs and with Reijrink as subcontractor."
The steel structure was designed by Royal HaskoningDHV. "All parties worked in partnerships on the extensions, with detailed engineering of the individual components being carried out in-house. Crucial parts of process systems such as girders of crane tracks were incorporated into the halls. The assembly of around 8,000 tons of steel structure took place between week 34 and the turn of the year," Van Dooren says.
Construction, facades and roofs were produced by companies that know each other well. "This construction extension is a real feat of performing parties who produce on both sides of the Dutch-Belgian border roughly half an hour apart."
