Conditioned spaces require specialized approach

A large part of the new building of Domino's Pizza in Nieuwegein consists of conditioned rooms. The insulation construction of these spaces was in the hands of Roma. The specialist in conditioned system construction looks back on an ideal project.

Groenewout Consultancy, which supervised the project on behalf of client COFFR, involved Roma from the first strokes of the pen. Based on the client's wishes, Roma sketched the contours of the conditioned spaces. The contours and height of the building were adjusted accordingly. "We build our conditioned spaces as vapor-tight boxes in the hall," says Roma sales consultant Bart Hultermans. "In order to maintain as much free height as possible in the hall, these rooms must connect as efficiently as possible to the ceiling construction of the hall. That's what we gave the optimum interpretation of in the construction team."

Insulated, resistant and food safe

Roma realized the freezer cell, cold room, crate washing area and dough processing area. The insulation panels for the freezer cell and cold room, 170 and 100 millimeters thick respectively, were manufactured at Roma's factory in Germany. Hultermans: "For the crate washing area, we applied PET-coated panels. These panels are resistant to high humidity and temperature differences. In the dough processing area, we applied panels with a food-safe and easy-to-clean coating, as well as click profiles."

4.5 meter high door

"We also manufactured and installed the large sliding doors of the cold and freezer rooms and the foodcare doors of the dough processing room," Hultermans continued. "Of particular note is the door between the shipping area and cold store. This is no less than 4.5 meters high, so that the reach truck can pass under it." With completion behind them, says Hultermans, "The implementation went like a bomb. This is largely due to the good preparation and coordination in the construction team. We also look back with pleasure on the cooperation with Groenewout Consultancy, Domino's Pizza, contractor Willy Naessens and the other parties involved."
