Both the facade cassettes and the windows, doors and sliding doors are made of untreated aluminum, which oxidizes naturally. The aluminum windows, doors and sliding doors are supplied and assembled by facade builder Facédo, which, like the architectural combination, chose Kawneer's profile systems.
"In the preliminary phase, we worked with the tender team of VORM Bouw/BESIX to identify the aesthetic and technical wishes and requirements for the facade," says Bas Aarts, Architectural Consultant at Kawneer Benelux. "We then examined how the facade of the building at this location could be constructed as smartly and efficiently as possible, without compromising the wishes and requirements. Sluishuis will be realized in the water, so there is no question of a traditional construction site. That is why Facédo is already building in all windows, doors and sliding doors in VIANEN's HSB factory in Montfoort. All products are delivered ready-made and just-in-time to the project and processed immediately."
Based on the thermal, acoustic and wind- and water-tightness requirements, Kawneer recommended the most appropriate profile systems and glass types for this project. "In Sluishuis, frames with tilt-and-turn windows as well as doors are used," says Aarts. "In terms of wind and water tightness, turn-tilt windows perform significantly better than standard doors. That is why - except for the plinth - turn-tilt windows have been used instead of doors on almost all floors. Also for access to the balconies. Residents thereby receive the tilt-and-turn function as a gift; a frequently used function to naturally ventilate spaces."
For the windows and doors, Kawneer's modular and completely C2C-certified aluminum RT 72 Reflex window and door system was chosen, which includes profiles, hardware and all accessories down to surface treatment. "Our aluminum sliding door was also used," said Aarts. "Chosen was our new AA 5110 sliding door, which is distinguished by excellent thermal properties, high wind and water tightness as well as high system rigidity. Sluishuis will be the first project in which the AA 5110 sliding door is applied on this large scale."
At the request of the architects, the exterior of all window frames is done in brut aluminum. However, the inside of the frames - where the moving hardware components are located - will receive a surface treatment. "The inside will be blank anodized, so that optimum quality and functionality can also be guaranteed in the long term."
