Commissioned by housing corporation Eigen Haard, construction company QBuild made the homes more sustainable, comfortable and safe. IJsselmonde contributed by installing the exterior wall insulation system.
"Sustainability is high on our agenda," says Jan Arie van Weelden, renovation & sustainability project manager at Eigen Haard. "We are firmly committed to renovation and major maintenance. We have also been implementing the sustainability program Samen Verduurzamen, or SAVE for short, for the past five years. The goal of this program is to improve our homes energetically, so that by 2023 our entire property will have at least energy label B. Every year, we make about 1,200 to 1,500 homes more sustainable. The gallery homes at the Nile also fall under this. The label leap they make means they can last for years again."
As a chain partner of Eigen Haard, QBuild continuously carries out renovation, improvement and sustainability projects. "Within SAVE, making the gallery homes on the Nile more sustainable was our seventh project," says Jaap Stekelenburg, renovation & major maintenance project manager at QBuild. "We provided these homes with better insulation, installed HR++ glass, made window frames and doors gap-tight and installed mechanical ventilation. We also performed painting, repair and cleaning work. Residents could also opt for solar panels." The work took place in occupied condition. QBuild provided guidance to the residents.
The Nile is also the seventh SAVE project for IJsselmonde. The specialist in exterior wall insulation provided the scaffolding and fitted the gallery houses with new cavity wall anchors and exterior wall insulation. "With the cavity wall anchors, we reinforced the anchoring of the exterior cavity walls to the structure," says Jacco Oostenbrug of IJsselmonde. "After this, QBuild filled the cavity. We then applied the exterior wall insulation system. This system from Sto consists of an adhesive layer, insulation package, stress distribution layer and facade finish. On this project, the finish consists of stone strips in the original style. In the facade insulation system, we also included bat boxes."
Ad van Raam supervised the execution on behalf of IJsselmonde. He supervised the quality and progress of the work. The fact that IJsselmonde already carried out several projects within SAVE contributed to this. "The cooperation with QBuild and the other parties went super," Van Raam looks back. "We know what we can do with each other, the guys on the construction site know each other and the mutual trust is great." Stekelenburg adds, "Equally important is that the residents are satisfied with the course of events and the final result. They gave us an 8 in the satisfaction survey."
