In Maastricht, on the site where the Sphinx pottery factory has been located since 1834, a new part of the city center is rising: Sphinx Zuid. In the new Sphinx Quarter, on top of a 200 meter long parking garage, 2 apartment buildings and 36 houses will rise. Elektro Scheppers, with branches in Weert and Kerkrade, is making a crucial contribution to this.
In the heyday of "The Sphinx," as many as 2,500 employees worked within the gates of this Maastricht company. Together they worked on a wide variety of pottery and glassware products. And without many people even knowing it today, the industrial revolution for Dutch industry began on the Sphinx site. For that reason alone, this can be called a special location. In the years that followed, the organization developed and the manufacturer of sanitary ware, which many still know, came into being. Until 2009, the production organization was still located here and after production was stopped in Maastricht, this special site, with great historical value, lay idle.
But not for long. Meanwhile, an entirely new site is emerging where living, working and relaxing come together. Apartments, homes, stores and parking garages are rising up to breathe new life into this special location. Construction companies Jongen, from Landgraaf, is playing a crucial role in this and is the driving force behind the realization of no fewer than 151 town houses and apartments. Jongen is also realizing the parking garage that will provide secure parking for 289 cars. And in all this, the specialists of Elektro Scheppers are right next door to Bouwbedrijven Jongen.
During the "Day of Construction" on June 15, the Sphinx Quarter Maastricht construction site was opened to the public.
A large proportion of the total 77,000 visitors visited this unique location in Maastricht and saw for themselves what a wonderful new future lies ahead for this site where the industrial revolution saw the light of day.
In turn, Scheppers literally takes care of the light and life within this project by installing the entire electro-technical installation as well as the infrastructure of the houses and the parking garage. Upon completion of this project, the men of Elektro Scheppers will have spent thousands of hours here and installed many kilometers of pipe and wire.
