Innovative green guidance for High Tech Campus 91

Greenery in, on and about buildings is an effective means of achieving a healthy indoor climate and a healthy business campus. At the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (HTCE), the new Lucis One office building contributes to this in a stylish way. The building at High Tech Campus 91 is equipped with custom made 316 stainless steel cables and cable mesh netting from Kabel Design, against which the green planting will soon grow lushly.

"Green facades are an attractive eye-catcher. Moreover, planting on the facade contributes to a more sustainable and healthier climate," says Peter Huijbregts, director of Kabel Design. "The plants filter particulate matter, provide an extra layer of insulation, promote the habitat of birds, butterflies and insects and protect the facades from direct sunlight, which means buildings heat up less quickly."

At High Tech Campus 91, all the facades of the low-rise buildings plus the west side of the high-rise tower are fitted with green conductors. The stainless steel 316 cables and cable mesh networks were installed at the intercession of idverde and commissioned by Bouwbedrijf van de Ven to be delivered and assembled by Kabel Design, a specialist in cable technology and other products. "We became involved in this project in October 2023," says Huijbregts. "We mapped out the challenges and technical (im)possibilities and presented them to Bouwbedrijf van de Ven, client HTCE and Juurlink [+] Geluk Stedenbouw en Landschap, on the basis of which we were awarded this beautiful contract. Because the facade cladding of Lucis One is quite thin, special and solid support provisions were included in the rear construction. Moreover, we had custom made spacers made, which fit into the profiling of the facade panels and guarantee sufficient distance between the planting and building facades. And all in a very short time frame."

Because of the height of the tower, somewhat thicker cables were chosen so that, for example, wind and other weather loads can be absorbed well, Huijbregts says. "Moreover, the cables are divided into lengths of 3 to 7 meters. By choosing stainless steel 316, an excellent resistance to corrosion is ensured, preserving the beautiful aesthetics of the facade for a long time."
