Valk Exclusive Hotel Eindhoven-Best: Stylish combination of white concrete and glass

The new Valk Exclusive hotel Eindhoven-Best is slowly taking shape. Both on the inside and outside, the hotel will have a luxurious and high-quality finish. In order to ensure optimum daylight access and phenomenal views, large areas of glass have been chosen in combination with the BALQOON® balcony systems from Granito Betonproducten.

"We were approached as early as the design phase by Paul Teunissen, architect at P.A.M. Teunissen Architectenburo and one of the Van der Valk family's house architects," says Ton Tetteroo, director of Granito Concrete Products. "Paul was very charmed by the BALQOON® balcony systems in project Coolhouse in Scheveningen. In addition to the combination of white concrete and glass balustrades, he was very pleased with the retrofit options. Together with the architect, I worked out a feasible and doable plan for 277 BALQOON® balcony systems, which are produced and delivered on behalf of Huybregts Relou. In addition, we produce and deliver 203 column sheaves in white concrete, which add a special quality to the facade design."

Set balcony for perfect anchoring

"For the assembly of the BALQOON® balcony systems, a disconnected cold-bridge anchoring system was cast along with the main supporting structure," Tetteroo explains. "In the engineering phase, we developed a star frame (set beam) in which the anchors were fixed. The standing frames were included by the contractor in the edge formwork for the floors, which means that the prefab balcony systems can soon be hung seamlessly and very easily on the structure. A similar construction has been worked out for the column sheaves, with the sheaves being anchored at the top."

No hollow but solid elements

Valk Exclusive Hotel Eindhoven-Best is one of Granito Concrete Products' first projects in which solid, rather than hollow, retrofit balcony elements are used, says Tetteroo. "An option that is becoming increasingly possible, now that cold-bridge anchors can accommodate ever greater weights. For Valk Exclusive Hotel Eindhoven-Best, relatively narrow balconies were chosen. At the front of the elements we integrated an aluminum strip. In this, baluster-free glass panels can soon be mounted, resulting in a fully transparent balustrade."

Following on from the BALQOON® balcony systems and column slabs, Granito Concrete Products is also producing and supplying the concrete stairs, landings and eaves for Valk Exclusive hotel Eindhoven-Best.
