The facades of the 174 homes and stairwells on Nigerdreef in Utrecht have been fitted with new insulation materials and spandrel panels. In addition, they received new window frames. As a regular co-maker of BAM Renovation Concepts, Kumij fitted insulating plastic window frames with HR++ glazing, window vents, plastic sandwich panels and aluminum waterslaps. The Groningen manufacturer also took care of the plating, carpentry and insulation work between the window frames.
Kumij has been the regular plastic window frame partner of BAM Renovation Concepts for many years. The cooperation bears fruit for all parties, such as working out the best implementation method. Head of Sales Henk van der Vliet: "The block of flats on Nigerdreef has ten floors and six elevators and stairwells. From a sustainability perspective, we jointly decided to retain the existing wooden window frames. Our fitters filled out the glass rebates, after which new plastic window frames were installed in the existing frames. In places where plastic frames with a pivot part (= window) had already been installed at an earlier stage, the plastic window was dismantled and removed for recycling."
Because asbestos had been found in the sealant of the existing window frames, Vlasman B.V. first performed asbestos remediation and installed temporary Lexan PC panels, Van der Vliet says. This allowed Kumij to carry out its work properly and safely. "In total, we installed 689 window frames, at a rate of 1.5 apartments per day. We chose the recessed K-VISION Trend profile, with a 45° connection angle. All window frames are finished all around in Cream (RAL 9001) with an Agate Gray color film (RAL 7038) on the outside of the windows. The stairwell window frames also received a color film on the outside (Black Gray, RAL 7021). All new window frames are equipped with HR++ glass, with a Ug value of 1.1. In the small apartments opposite the stairwell, solar control glass was used, with a ZTA value of 34%."
To ensure sufficient fresh air supply through the dry rooms, without risk of noise pollution, Kumij installed sound-damping BUVA Acoustream susrosters in the majority of the windows. All work was carried out from a lifting scaffold.
