Extremely fire-safe and durable roof insulation for DC JYSK
A total of no less than 166,000 m2 of ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy flat roof insulation was delivered just-in-time to the project site, equivalent to more than 7,000 pallets of insulation material.

Highly fire-safe and durable roof insulation for DC JYSK

One of the largest distribution centers in the Netherlands is rising in Lelystad: the new logistics heart of JYSK. The international retail chain, like ROCKWOOL, has Danish roots and actively focuses on sustainability and circularity. The project has been designed and is being built to LEED Gold standards. ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy flat roof insulation meets these requirements perfectly and also excels in terms of thermal performance and fire safety.

“When building large-scale logistics centers such as JYSK's distribution center, fire safety is essential,” says ROCKWOOL account manager Randy Peeters. “The project specifications prescribed stone wool insulation for this purpose, which was translated into ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation on the advice of roofing contractor Hollanddak. Not only because of the excellent quality and durability of our products, but also because of our high delivery reliability. We delivered a total of 166,000 m2 of ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy flat roof insulation just-in-time to the project site, equivalent to over 7,000 pallets of insulation material. At the construction site in Lelystad, the material was placed on the roof directly from the trucks and using a crane. A hefty logistical operation, which was well entrusted to us.”

Euro fire class A1

To meet the required Rc value and building requirements, ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy flat roof insulation was used in two layers of 120 mm, says Peeters. “This achieves an Rc value of 6.3 m2K/W. In addition, ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy scores maximum on fire safety. This stone wool insulation has Euro fire class A1, which means that the material does not contribute to fire at any stage, does not produce smoke and also does not form flaming droplets. ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy is lightweight and guarantees high thermal performance. Its heat-accumulating ability also dampens temperature fluctuations and significantly delays summer heating. ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy also contributes to acoustic comfort. Because the boards are mechanically fixed, they can be easily disassembled for recycling at the end of the building life. For example, in our own Rockcycle® recycling program.”

Rockcycle® recycling program

Rockcycle® is specifically focused on collecting and reusing stone wool scraps and cutting waste from construction and renovation projects. “At our plant, the stone wool scraps are pressed into briquettes, which are used as secondary raw material in new ROCKWOOL stone wool products,” says Peeters. “New products consist of up to 50% of recycled material and our flat roof insulation of approximately 35% of recycled material. Thanks to its low environmental impact, ROCKWOOL Caproxx Energy has been included in the National Environmental Database with a cat1 environmental statement.”
