Dekker Kozijnprojecten is supplying and installing new insulation and wooden cladding on 72 homes in the Dassenbos neighborhood in Hoofddorp. The homes are spread across nine blocks, and a total of around 5,000 m² of wooden cladding will be installed.
Client Rutges Vernieuwt is making the residential area more sustainable and approached Dekker Kozijnprojecten to help them think about replacing the window frames. Work planner Gerrart van Veen from Dekker Kozijnprojecten: “Ultimately, it was decided to keep the existing window frames and have them fitted with new moving parts by another party. We replaced the existing insulation and cladding and installed new skirting boards along the foundation.”
The old side boards contained asbestos and were removed by a specialized company. Dekker installed new, insulated side boards made of a cement-like material. Next, the scaffolding around the first block was erected.
The 72 homes will be fitted with new PIR insulation, cladding, and a foil layer, and will be finished with wooden siding, including underlying structure. Dekker started work on the first block of houses at the end of November 2024 and will complete the project in September.
The cladding is made of thermally modified pine and is delivered to the construction site in the right color. “The bottom part has a horizontal pattern in ivory white, while the top part has a vertical pattern in three shades of green. The color changes from block to block and sometimes even within a block. This creates a lively look.”
The homes are being renovated while still occupied. According to Van Veen, the neighborhood is a pleasant place to work, and the collaboration with main contractor Rutges Vernieuwt is going very well. “This is our first major project together and everyone is positive: from the client to our people and the residents. Of course, we are doing everything we can to limit the inconvenience. For example, the old insulation was removed by another party during the winter months and we immediately followed up with the new insulation to prevent people from being left in the cold.”
Dekker works block by block at a rate of about 2.5 homes per week. When she has finished a block, the painter follows to do the finishing touches and the plumber to install the new gutters.
