Efficient concrete molds for complex architectural forms

Wonderwoods, the new eye-catcher of Utrecht, promises not only to enrich the skyline but also to bring biodiversity back to the city. Behind the green facades and flower boxes is the craftsmanship of ter Stege Betonmallen - Specialists from Hoogeveen, which, with its centuries of expertise, supplied the complex molds for this iconic project.

Drenthe-based ter Stege Concrete Molds - Specialists began as a traditional contracting company more than 200 years ago. Over the years, the company has transformed into an expert in making wooden molds for the precast concrete industry. "Our family business has existed for eight generations," director Jos Schuitemaker proudly explains. "We now work with about 220 employees in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany."

From workshops in Hoogeveen, Coevorden and Hoogkerk, ter Stege Betonmallen - Specialists supplies molds for a variety of projects, with an expertise in architectural highlights. The formwork specialists supply molds to concrete plants, with the team thinking along from start to finish on efficient solutions. The company has accumulated not only a wealth of experience over the past centuries, but also a large network of partners within the concrete industry.

Formwork for Wonderwoods

For Wonderwoods, ter Stege Betonmallen - Specialists supplied the molds for both the flower boxes and the façade elements of the two residential towers. "The round shapes were a challenge," explains operations director Lennard Bijl. "Machining wood into such precise curves requires craftsmanship. And with our expertise in 3D design, this was a great opportunity to show what we can do." With more than thirty specially designed molds, delivered on a tight schedule, ter Stege Betonmallen - Specialists provided an indispensable part of this green city icon. "Such a large print run in such a short time is something only a handful of companies in the Netherlands can do," says Schuitemaker. The result of ter Stege Betonmallen - Specialists' work is clearly visible. Bijl: "It gives our team great satisfaction to work on such prestigious projects. When you see the towers with all those flower boxes and green facades, it's wonderful to know that we did our part."
