Area development S-West at Strijp-S in Eindhoven offers a stylish mix of housing and workspaces. Residential Tower Frits is the most prominent building, towering head and shoulders above the other new construction projects. The stylish and floor-to-ceiling window frames, facades and curtain walls by Thermo Konstrukties provide the residents of the 87 owner-occupied apartments with a formidable view of the city.
Thermo Konstrukties is no stranger to Strijp-S. "Commissioned by Stam and de Koning, we were also allowed to take care of the window frames, facades and curtain walls of the other three Philips derivatives," says director Albert Derks. "A job totaling over 5,000 m2. In residential tower Frits, we realized 180 m2 of curtain walls and 2,400 m2 of window frames, doors, folding walls and sliding doors. Colleagues Joost Thissen and Tom Verbruggen worked out the work entirely in 3D BIM."
Frits' facades and curtain walls are all made of Reynaers Aluminum profiles. "We only work with Reynaers profiles," says Derks. "It is an extremely modular and broad profile system that allows us to meet virtually any design challenge. At Frits, we chose the SL 38 Cubic series for the frames with tilt-and-turn windows, the doors are made of CS 77, for the curtain wall we used the CW 50 system, the folding walls come from the CF 77 series and finally the sliding doors are made of the CP 155 system. The frames were successfully tested for air and water tightness at Reynaers in Duffel. On site, the systems were also taped airtight on the inside. We also subjected the SL 38 Cubic series to a fire test especially for this project, due to the adjacent Sint Lucas school. We are now certified to use this system in this composition for fireproofing in other projects as well."
Derks looks back on a successful project. "Or rather series of projects," he adds. "The cooperation with Stam and de Koning is always very smooth. We know what we have in common. Currently there are already seven new projects on the joint schedule."
