Getting rid of pipes, cables and recesses

As the construction of Vitens nears its end, it is up to ALM Afbouw to make the rooms nice and tight. This is done with metal stud walls, system walls and system ceilings in various heights and compositions. Most of the finishing work is routine. Only here and there are challenges.

It is not surprising that Salverda Bouw outsourced the finishing work to ALM Afbouw. The parties have been working together for over thirty years and speak the same language. The latter is also important to both companies. "It is so often said 'Building is something you do together,'" notes Danny van Enk, director/owner of ALM Afbouw. "Yet few parties actually live up to this. Salverda is one such party. It opts for long-term relationships, quality solutions and continuity. These concepts can also be found in ALM Afbouw's mission statement."

Extra high quality

Extra-high quality metal stud walls were chosen at Vitens. The standard boards were replaced by gypsum fiber boards. These boards are more moisture resistant and extra impact resistant. The installation of the plates is part of ALM Afbouw's daily activities. What is exceptional, however, is the length of the walls in the stairwell. "7.5 meters is quite long for a non-load-bearing element. But from an aesthetic point of view, this was chosen anyway."

A challenge

The structural elements combined with the installation elements make for quite a complex whole. Everywhere, pipes and recesses define the view. Van Enk: "Then it's up to us to do our trick, which is to get rid of all the pipes, cables and recesses so that a nice, tight whole is created. At Vitens, that was quite a challenge." 

Acoustic ceiling tiles

Ceiling tiles with increased sound absorption provide the Vitens rooms with comfortable acoustics. With high-quality acoustic ceiling tiles, the industrial look is preserved while still creating spaces where it is pleasant to work. "These ceiling tiles are the answer to a problem of our time. They absorb the reverberation that occurs when primarily hard materials are used. The ceiling tiles are available in several versions. In terms of color, design and suspension system, a lot is possible."
