Keizer Unitbouw supplied the timber frame walls and roofs for the BalPol IV student complex in Delft to main contractor Daiwa House.
The preparation process for BalPol IV ran for many years before construction could actually start. From his previous employer, Daiwa House, Jaap de Keizer was already working on this project in 2011. He later took over the company Keizer Unitbouw from his parents and was commissioned by Daiwa House to supply various HSB elements. "I had already put a lot of energy into it from Daiwa House and I knew all about it. So I was also very keen to deliver for this project and fortunately that is what happened."
Each wall was calculated in detail in advance. In order to work in good harmony and meet the schedule, Keizer Unitbouw also delivered on Saturdays. During construction, there was constant contact with Daiwa House's installers, logistics manager Teus de With and project leader Dennis Kos to fine-tune everything. "We work a lot with Daiwa House and we are proud of that. In terms of logistics, this project presented some question marks because of the size of the elements. By using the right trucks, we were able to deliver 25 elements per day, which amounts to five units."
A total of 2,500 m2 of HSB elements were delivered, creating 144 student homes. The walls and roofs are already fitted with the necessary insulation materials at Keizer Unitbouw's production site, supplied by partner Alert Insulation. Keizer also provided the elements with pipes for electricity and water, among other things. De Keizer: "This made it possible to build quickly. We had many consultations about this with engineer Gerard Stedenbouwer of Daiwa House. It was not one of the easiest projects, but one that went smoothly and prosperously."
In addition to supplying HSB walls and roofs, Keizer Unitbouw also offers flexible, affordable housing solutions in wood frame construction for education and healthcare, among others. From temporary units to fully furnished offices made of PEFC-certified wood.
