Once the shell construction of the Thorbecke Talent School is complete, Schema Afbouw takes on an important part of the finishing. Throughout the building - atrium, classrooms and corridors - it installs the drywall walls. It also finishes the walls Class B (suitable for wallpaper) and installs the gable coves and system ceilings.
Schema Finishing is now two months in and everywhere the metal battens are already in place and the drywall walls are set up one side at a time. All walls meet specific requirements. Some get high sound insulation, others a special impact resistance class or a fire resistance requirement and still others have all the properties they need to meet. Now, for Schema Afbouw, this is all still part of the regular business. At the Thorbecke, the trick is to install the walls relatively early in the process, given the complexity of the new installations.
"The installations are installed with great care," knows Koen Schelling, director/owner of Schema Afbouw. "Yet sometimes they take up just too much space and stick through the second plate of the drywall. To prevent this, we install one of the two wall sides first and wait to install the second side until the installations are mounted. This ensures that the installer already has the correct dimensions available. In addition, we constantly consult with the installers. Now that is relatively easy on this project because contractor BINX is also the installer."
Organizationally, the work goes off without a hitch. To schedule projects, Schema Afbouw works with a special software application, which maps out the course of projects in detail. "Running on schedule, we owe that to our name," she says. It also has specialists for every discipline. Schelling: "One crew of fitters specializes in setting walls; another in mounting ceilings. So the total work is in the hands of skilled people. They like to make spaces nice and tight. "
