New Voorkappers commercial building gets modern and sustainable facade

One of the building partners for the new premises of hairdressing wholesaler Voorkappers.nl is façade specialist Akuflex. On the Zevenhuis industrial estate in Zwaag, the company is working hard on this 5,000-square-meter building.

Akuflex designs, manufactures and assembles aluminum facade elements and operates in the commercial, residential and renovation markets. The company has a wide product range that includes curtain walls, window frames, sliding doors, folding walls and more. "Everything is designed and produced in-house in Hoorn by an enthusiastic team," said commercial director Marco Bakker. "We are a company with which it is pleasant to work together. After all, you build together. With us during the day you won't encounter an answering machine with a choice menu or a long queue. Quick contact with the right person, short lines of communication and a flexible attitude: that is what our customers like."

For the new Voorkappers building on the George Marschallweg in Zwaag, Akuflex provided the complete engineering, assembly and installation of 450 square meters of curtain wall and frame. "In Breg and Breg's design, the curtain wall in the front facade takes a prominent place. The building is in a nice sight location next to the busy provincial road," said Bakker.  

Energy efficient building 

For the building, Akuflex used facade systems from Kawneer of Harderwijk. These facade systems are designed to support sustainable design, reduce environmental impact and optimize end-users' well-being and comfort. Bakker: "As an infinitely recyclable material, aluminum is always a good choice: it promotes the circular economy!" Part of the curtain wall used by Akuflex is fire-resistant. "We are certified through the SKG to make fire-resistant elements, so we can produce this in-house," Bakker explains. The facades are fitted with solar control triple glazing. This glazing has a beautiful luxurious appearance and excellent insulation value.

Building faster, cheaper and better 

"For us it was very nice to be involved in this project in the preliminary stages. That way you can build faster, cheaper and better. And the chance of mistakes is considerably less. Actually, you want to work with every client like this," Bakker states. "With contractor Stabo Bouw we have been working very well for about ten years. On this same business park, we have already completed some sixteen other properties together. We know exactly what we have in common."
