When you construct an apartment building in a noise-affected area, soundproofing measures must be taken. Shielding the exterior space with a sliding pivot or sliding system seems like an excellent choice in that case, but it also introduces a new problem. After all, natural ventilation to the thermal shell behind is interrupted. In order to remove the polluted air on the balcony, residents may ventilate, but in doing so they also immediately bring the noise back inside. This creates a vicious circle, which Solarlux's SL 25 and SL 25 XXL pivot-slide systems effectively overcome.
The SL 25 and SL 25 XXL turn-and-slide systems are currently being installed on the balconies of De Burgemeester; a new apartment complex in Het Buurtschap in Sliedrecht with 29 attractive apartments with fine views and generous outdoor spaces, in the form of a garden or balcony. De Burgemeester was designed by Quadrant Architects and is being built by Gebroeders Blokland. "We were involved by the contractor as early as November 2021, to make an offer for the hard-glass balcony glazing," says André Jansen, account manager at Solarlux. "Based on the width/height ratios, wind loads and desired glass thicknesses and noise values, the glass balcony railings on the noise-exposed facades are fitted with our SL 25 turn-and-slide system. At the indoor outdoor areas, our floor-to-ceiling SL 25 XXL pivot-slide systems will be fitted, so that residents will soon experience no noise pollution from road traffic."
The SL 25 and SL 25 XXL excel in energy efficiency, functionality and aesthetics, says Jansen. "The use of glass eliminates the visual separation between inside and outside. Moreover, a major advantage of the full-glass turn-and-slide systems is that the windows can easily be turned inward, allowing residents to wash them themselves. In good weather, the systems can be fully opened, while on less beautiful days they provide protection from wind and weather. This allows residents to enjoy additional living and entertaining space in the early, high and late seasons. Our turn-and-slide systems also create a so-called 'second-skin facade,' which saves a lot of energy."
In order to take the above characteristics to an even higher level, Solarlux balcony glazing products are constantly being further developed. This has recently led to the introduction of the Proline T and Proline T Mega, in which technical details and an eye-catching design come together harmoniously with an even slimmer profile. In addition, these systems allow even greater energy savings.
