Prefabricated facade elements support ambitions of Eurofins

Willemsen Houtbouw specializes in prefabricated timber construction for commercial and residential construction. "We supply elements to the contracting industry: facades, floors, roofs, interior walls, complete constructions - and increasingly, modular homes," says director Piet Willemsen. Thanks to its own factory along the A12 motorway, the company can switch quickly. "That is practical for logistics as well as for tight planning on the construction site."

This method of working also provided benefits in the new Eurofins building. Commissioned by main contractor Burgland Bouw, Willemsen Houtbouw produced a facade construction of timber frame construction with a fireproof and waterproof finish. "We opted for a construction with a cembrit panel as a water-resistant layer. On top of that, solar panels are mounted as the facade finish," Willemsen said.

Attention to detailing

The fact that the solar panels do not form a watertight facade required careful coordination with the parties involved. Willemsen: "The elements are designed in such a way that they contain sufficient back timber to mount the panels on and guarantee a watertight facade. We do the technical detailing first in 2D, followed by a 3D model for verification."

Work preparation began in the spring of 2024, with production beginning in January 2025. "The facade finishing has now started. Thanks to good preparation, production could be completed in four weeks."

Prefab as a puzzle

While not a complicated project in terms of engineering, the challenge is in the collaboration. "The building is large, the planning tight and the facade open in character. That requires good coordination. But that's also the nice thing about prefab: it's a puzzle that has to fit perfectly every time."

With completion scheduled for early 2026, Willemsen Houtbouw is helping to create a modern and future-proof lab - built from craftsmanship in wood.
