State-of-the-art custom folding wall systems

State-of-the-art customized folding wall systems

Architectural consultant Jan Jaap Hofstra: "In 2023, the BENG standard will apply to all housing and utility projects - new construction and renovation. As a high-end product innovator, we can already comply with this now, with architectural advice in every area."

In Valley's case, the requirements were so high that architect MVRDV itself preferred Solarlux. "The supplier of full-glass aluminum folding wall systems had to be involved from the design level in this case. That is the approach in all our projects," says Hofstra. "Regardless of volume and organization of the construction column. In almost all projects, including healthcare-related and private construction, people come to Solarlux through the architect, so we can offer the best solution as a team in the design and calculation phase."

With Solarlux, the developer chooses a high-end product; all variables and choices are best made as early as possible, Hofstra says. "With non-commercial parties such as school and healthcare organizations, the preliminary process may be different from commercial or private developments; even in those processes, we can advise the architect in everything regarding end product and customization. We don't want to pat ourselves on the back, but when people knock on Solarlux's door - even internationally - the demands are always high and we make every effort to be able to realize the wishes."

'The market knows we can realize the highest demands and requirements'

Integral development

If you are called in for residential construction on the Zuidas, with high demands for comfort and soundproofing, and for high-rise buildings in Hong Kong, the client has already gone through a process regarding selection of construction parties, Hofstra said. In the Netherlands, with COVID-19 and the introduction of the BENG requirements for new buildings, there has recently been a quality improvement in the requirements package. Thermal insulation, ventilation solutions, high soundproofing and a low EPC are almost always demanded in combination, leading to integral further development of folding wall systems. "We can reduce up to 25 dB on the facade with balcony glazing and achieve up to 48 dB with our interior walls. We test excessively on all aspects, from wind and noise load, insulation and assembly logistics to ease of use." That includes continuous further development, right down to customized aspects. "For example, think about integrated shading. You can imagine that comfort, ventilation and noise protection are strongly linked in the development of sliding doors and folding walls. Strongly in development is the integration of SUS boxes for soundproof ventilation with building structures. The market knows that we have a system-integrated approach and can realize the highest demands and requirements, with sustainable, lean manufactured base materials. Clients demand collaborative capability and get it from Solarlux, very early in the process and in the right place - in the design phase with the architect."
