Main contractor De Vries en Verburg Bouw, responsible for the realization of Smartlog Rotterdam 5 in the ports of Rotterdam, makes grateful use of the smart total concept of Preco, total supplier of precast concrete elements.
Smartlog Rotterdam 5 is strategically located in the port of Rotterdam and close to the A15 motorway (Europoort-Rotterdam-Nijmegen). The logistics complex is 20,293 m² in size. "The Smartlog concept is characterized by a set recipe for design, construction and materialization," says Rick Schakel, project manager at De Vries en Verburg Bouw. "Similar distribution centers are being built by DHG throughout the Netherlands, obviously adapted to the plot size. For Smartlog Rotterdam 5, we are responsible for the complete construction process, including the installations and site direction."
The new distribution center was founded on piles formed in the ground and an in-situ poured foundation and floor. Schakel: "The steel structure was placed on top of this. The wind and watertightness is guaranteed by a precast concrete parapet, sandwich panels for the facade and roof and a bitumen roof covering. To ensure a fast execution schedule, we chose to purchase all precast concrete elements from Preco. Preco is responsible for supplying the parapet elements, the hollow-core slabs, the T-pieces to serve the docks and the necessary stairs, landings and precast internal walls."
Preco specializes in the production of precast concrete elements and is increasingly presenting itself as a total supplier. "We take care of the picture from A to Z, with the complete concrete shell from one factory," says Inge van de Weerd, project manager at Preco. "In doing so, we assist from design and production according to KOMO to delivery at the desired time and assembly of the precast concrete elements on site. The fact that we can take care of everything in-house as a total supplier, i.e. one point of contact, is of great added value for many clients." Schakel can absolutely agree. The completion of Smartlog Rotterdam 5 is scheduled for late March 2021.
