Fast, efficient and weather-independent construction with precast concrete

The share of precast concrete elements in the construction industry has increased substantially over the past 10 years. And that is not surprising, according to Theo Kool, Commercial Director of Preco (formerly: Cervix Concrete). "The number of construction hands is becoming increasingly scarce and lead times are under pressure. Precast concrete production responds to this optimally. The concrete is produced under the best conditions and weather conditions have less influence on the pouring and curing process, allowing us to ensure optimal efficiency and quality. The production time is considerably shorter than on-site. Moreover, tolerances are smaller in the factory. Because we reuse as many materials as possible and utilize water from our own groundwater source, our precast concrete is also highly sustainable."

Because the existing rental location in Ede was too small to meet the growing demand for precast concrete products, Preco decided in 2018 to build its own new concrete plant with state-of-the-art, new machinery. "In our new concrete plant in Apeldoorn, we can operate completely self-sufficiently and there is sufficient space to offer - under one roof - a total concept to our customers. From engineering to production and delivery," Kool says. "Customers can come to us for hull walls, structural walls, concrete plinths, fire walls, interior walls, hollow-core slabs, beams and columns, balconies and gallery slabs, stairs and platform slabs and dock elements. But also for specials, such as V columns, relief walls and walls with a photo print."

Sophisticated production process

All products are made to order. "Based on the architectural and construction drawings of our customers, our internal drawing office makes the production drawings. Completely in 3D/BIM, after which the models are loaded into our ERP system via IFC," says Kool. "All concrete mixtures are put together by a specialized concrete technologist based on customer requirements and prescribed environmental class. Wherever possible, we produce the precast concrete products on tables, where the main dimensions are projected onto the tables using a special laser technique. This allows us to produce even more dimensionally accurate products. Before our precast concrete products leave the factory, they undergo strict quality control."

Just-in-time logistics

Preco has an internal transport planner who works with the customer to determine the best delivery times. "The precast concrete products are usually transported on a carriage," says Kool. "This keeps the elements optimally protected during transport and minimizes the risk of damage." In addition to delivering the precast concrete elements, Preco can also provide assembly if required.
