Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
Building connections, improving, and ensuring success
Verhoeven and Leenders contributed their structural expertise to the fullest extent possible—from preliminary design (VO) to detailed design (DO) and construction drawings (UO).

Constructively connecting, improving, and ensuring

Intracare and the engineering firm Verhoeven & Leenders can count on a long-standing relationship, during which Verhoeven & Leenders has overseen various expansions and internal renovations. The Volkel-based engineering firm was also involved at an early stage in the new construction project in Veghel.

Safety first

“We were asked as early as the preliminary design phase to take on the role of structural consultant and to provide the structural calculations and drawings,” explains Ing. Ruud van den Bogert, project manager at Verhoeven en Leenders. “This involved ongoing coordination with the relevant disciplines. For example, the aesthetic, structural, and mechanical/electrical designs were coordinated in close consultation with the client, architect, and MEP consultant. From the preliminary design (VO) through the detailed design (DO) and final design (UO) phases, we contributed our structural expertise, prioritizing optimal structural safety during both construction and use.”

Controlled Firewater Collection

“The structural design for the new building is fairly traditional, featuring a steel frame and hollow-core slab floors for the office section, and a steel frame with steel roof panels for the production hall and warehouse,” explains Van den Bogert. “A unique feature is the PGS-15 warehouse for the storage of flammable and hazardous substances. For this, we designed a fully prefabricated concrete shell with hollow-core slabs, offering 120 minutes of fire resistance.” Due to this storage and the handling of hazardous substances in the production hall, the building is equipped with an extensive sprinkler system. “We designed an 800 m³ firewater reservoir beneath the building to collect fire suppression water in the event of an emergency. This prevents contaminated fire suppression water from entering the sewer system.”

Construction Supervision and BIM Management

During the construction phase, Verhoeven and Leenders carried out the construction inspections for Intracare—covering both the reinforcement and the steel structure with hollow-core slabs. “This allowed us to verify that construction was carried out in accordance with the design principles,” said Van den Bogert. “In addition, we were responsible for BIM coordination throughout the entire project. We continuously managed and reviewed the 3D models. This project brings together a wide range of disciplines—and right in our own backyard! We are extremely proud to have had the opportunity to contribute to this project.”
