Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
A front door that is fire-resistant for 60 minutes. And soundproof. And burglar-resistant. At Bredius in Amsterdam, these requirements are combined in a single door—no fewer than 105 times. Montaplus, based in the Noordoospolder, is supplying and installing the interior doors for the new construction complex that Ballast Nedam West is building using CLT timber construction.
At Bredius, Montaplus is collaborating with Timmerman, a hardware supplier based in Alkmaar. Freddy Jansma, owner of Montaplus: “The contractor was looking for partners who complement each other. We supply the interior doors. Timmerman supplies the hardware. We make sure everything is installed.”
While other contractors on this project have to adapt their methods to the CLT construction, it makes little difference when it comes to door installation, Jansma notes. “We always work with wooden door frames; that accounts for 90 percent of our work.”
What does make this project special, however, are the requirements for the front doors. “Usually, apartments require 30 minutes of fire resistance. Here, it’s 60 minutes. On top of that, there’s sound insulation. Because when people walk down the hallways, you don’t want to hear them in the rooms. And the doors must be burglar-resistant.” That combination required some research, Jansma explains, and that’s exactly what the company specializes in. “We always look for what best fits the client’s needs.”
Montaplus isn’t a factory, he emphasizes. “We’re a hub of knowledge. We know where to source the right products and put them together into a complete solution. The contractor put it nicely: it’s great to have a single point of contact for all solutions, where you can, so to speak, say, ‘Here’s the hole in the wall, here are the requirements. Just figure it out.’ And that’s exactly what we do.”
