Craftsmanship reigns supreme at De Veste 

Van der Gun Painting has been at home in glass and painting for nearly 60 years. The company is mainly active in new construction projects. From housing construction to utility construction, in a radius of 75 kilometers around Utrecht and for the larger contractors of the Netherlands. In Helmond, Van der Gun Schilderwerken is currently realizing a special project, which perfectly reflects the versatility and craftsmanship of its employees.

In town center De Veste, Hartje Brandevoort, the finishing touches are being put on the realization of 35 single-family houses and 28 apartments. De Veste is set up like an old fortified town with a rampart, stately houses, picturesque gates and courtyards. Based on a design by no less than three (!) architectural firms, the neighborhood is now being expanded with 63 new homes, all of which will have their own identity and appearance. Commissioned by Muller Bouw, Van der Gun Schilderwerken is taking care of all exterior glazing, painting and the finishing of various facades. All work should be completed around the Christmas vacations.

Historic rod distribution

"What is special about the glazing is that almost every window has a different division with wiener spros," says Hennie de Leur, who together with Richard van der Gun forms the management of Van der Gun Schilderwerken. "This means that aluminum cross bars are placed in the cavity between the glass, after which a wooden glass bar is glued to both sides of the window. This gives the windows a historic rod distribution." The biggest challenge here is the different sizes and color applications. The glazing mainly consists of various HR++ compositions. "For the larger windows and doors, safety glazing was chosen in accordance with NEN 3569."

Multiple colors

The glazing work is performed by two skilled employees of Van der Gun Schilderwerken, while three certified painters handle all the painting. "Biggest challenge here concerns in particular the multiplicity of colors," says De Leur. "In addition, some facades will be painted in different colors, so that the new building will soon fit harmoniously with the other homes in De Veste."
