Danish concrete printing specialist and PERI Group partner COBOD delivers 3D printer, Westerlo, Belgium
The realization of the 3D printed demo house is part of the C3PO project (Co-creation, 3D printing with organizations), supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). C3PO was founded with the aim of immersing the Flemish construction sector in the world of 3D printing. A world also close to the heart of PERI Group, one of the world's leading companies in formwork and scaffolding for the construction industry. In 2018, PERI Group acquired a stake in Copenhagen-based Danish 3D concrete printing specialist COBOD International A/S, a sister company of Danish 3D Printhuset A/S.
Developments in the field of concrete printing began in 2015. In 2017, the technological breakthrough was achieved: in Copenhagen, the so-called "BOD" ("Building on Demand") was printed with a 3D concrete printer from COBOD. This office building was the first 3D printed building in Europe. Today, COBOD is one of the world's leading companies with a wide range of 3D printers for residential construction. For the realization of the house in Westerlo, COBOD supplied the revolutionary BOD2 stationary 3D construction printer, which printed the 90-square-meter house in one piece.
"As a market and technology leader in the field of formwork and scaffolding, we at PERI closely follow the development of 3D concrete printing in the construction industry," says Leonhard Braig, member of the Group Management of the PERI Group. "COBOD is a leading company in this industry. COBOD's currently available BOD2 3D printer and the realization of the first full-scale printed house show that the technology is ready for the market. We are convinced that 3D printing will become significantly more important in certain segments of our industry in the coming years, especially in residential construction. We, together with COBOD, want to help this technology break through on a broad basis."
