Wooden siding for Buren's new town hall

For the new Buren town hall in Maurik, an architectural design was chosen that brings together wood, transparency, and the surrounding greenery. The design by the architectural firm cepezed has the character of a light and accessible community pavilion. The wooden siding plays a key role in giving the building its natural look.

Forestlines® was used for this facade. This facade system makes it possible to use untreated wood while still meeting fire reaction class B-s1,d0. The required fire performance is achieved not by chemically treating the wood, but through the carefully engineered design of the entire facade system. The fastening method, substructure, profiling, and detailing are all integral parts of the tested solution.

Eden BV was involved from the outset as a specialist consultant for the wood siding. Working closely with architect cepezed and general contractor Bouwbedrijf Osnabrugge, the team sought to strike the right balance between the intended architectural aesthetic, a long service life, low maintenance, sustainability, and demonstrable fire safety.

Eden BV’s advisory role extends throughout the entire process: from the initial selection of materials and profiles to technical engineering, detailing, substructure, fastening, and practical feasibility. In doing so, we consider not only the desired façade appearance but also factors such as dimensions, ventilation, connection details, material selection, and installation sequence. By coordinating these elements with the architect and contractor early on, technical issues during construction can be prevented.

At the town hall, the contractor installed the facade cladding on its own. Eden BV supplied the materials and provided the necessary technical support for this project. Depending on the project, Eden BV can also handle the entire installation process. This allows a single party to be responsible for the engineering, delivery, and installation of the facade system.

The end-use and durability tests conducted played an important role in the selection of materials. Fire performance was evaluated in a test setup that mirrored the actual application in the building. The study also examined how the untreated wood and the system structure continue to perform after aging.
