To bring the century-old, nationally designated historic ‘Veerse Toren’ at the Hooipolder interchange up to modern standards, various insulation measures are being implemented. A good example is the insulation of the exterior facades, for which Böhnke van den Broek is installing all the cladding walls. In addition, the Breda-based specialist in wall and ceiling systems is installing all the metal stud partition walls and constructing a vaulted ceiling in the dome.
The work on the Veerse Tower is being carried out on behalf of Oome Raamsdonk BV, for whom Böhnke van den Broek regularly installs wall and ceiling systems. “In this case, we were involved early on to help determine the insulation values,” says Jörg Böhnke, owner of Böhnke van den Broek. “The Veerse Tower is a complex building due to its narrow footprint, angular shape, and height. What was the best way to proceed here?”
A solution was found in the form of insulated cladding panels installed on the inside of the building envelope. “At the base of these false walls are plastic battens that are attached to the exterior wall,” explains Böhnke. On top of these, we install PIR panels, which are taped airtight all around. Next come insulated wall linings with a vapor barrier, which are again taped airtight, after which wood sheathing and drywall complete the assembly. A substantial wall system that allows us to easily meet the desired R-values. Moreover, insulating the exterior wall improves sound insulation, which ensures greater peace, privacy, and comfort.”
One challenge is the many angles and edges of the Veerse Tower, which require custom wall solutions. But the height and numerous small windows are also a challenge, says Böhnke. “By installing panels in the reveals of these window frames, thermal bridges are cleverly mitigated here as well.”
In addition to the insulated false walls, Böhnke van den Broek is also installing all the metal stud partition walls in the Veerse Tower. “The icing on the cake is the arched ceiling in the dome of the water tower, which is constructed using a metal stud frame,” says Böhnke. “We’re creating a gable at the corners. Next, the ceiling will be insulated and a vapor barrier installed, after which we’ll finish the entire structure with drywall. Postillion Hotels will then finish the ceiling in-house with acoustic spray coating.”
