Climate control H-Park Hilversum

An important part of the renovation of H-Park is the renewal and improved insulation of the outer shell and the construction of environmentally friendly installations. Together, these interventions make H-Park gas-free, energy-efficient and ready for the future.

The complete installation work in H-Park is in the hands of BLR Bimon Climate Control. It handles the preliminary survey, complete design, engineering, coordination with the other parties and the running of the shafts and ducts. "We are an old friend of the client," confesses Wim Birkhoff, director/owner of BLR Bimon. "That certainly contributed to the assignment coming our way. But we also earned the contract. Thanks to our expert advice, H-Park is again ready for the future."

Customized advice
By this, Birkhoff is referring to the advice that had already been worked out in advance for heating H-Park. This had opted for a CHP system for heating the building, supplemented by a gas-fired central heating system for the enormous amount of hot tap water. "For a building that should be able to last another 25 years after the renovation, that is not a good decision," Birkhoff says. "That's why we issued a modified recommendation, in which heating, comfort cooling and tap water are regulated with heat pumps. This is a better decision for the environment as well as for the property owner."

Underfloor heating and air source heat pumps
The modified advice led to a package of energy measures, including a new shell and good insulation. In addition, underfloor heating is being installed in all rooms, which keeps the building at a basic temperature continuously. This way of heating saves the owner a lot of energy. An air heat pump per room offers the possibility to fine-tune the temperature. This allows the user to cool and heat as desired.

Advancement opportunities
"BLR Bimon Climate Control has everything in-house," Birkhoff says. "We can complete a project of this size completely with our own people. We have 120 professionals, including 85 technicians. To keep knowledge up-to-date and expand the team responsibly, we also have our own company school. Here people can advance to positions they aspire to, such as chief mechanic or service technician."

Energy buffering
"Heat pumps have proven their worth," says Davey Heeren, BLR Bimon project manager and responsible for implementing the climate plan. "Heat pumps can provide excellent heating for a well-insulated building. In the section that combines living and working - with over 60 bathrooms - a lot of hot tap water is needed. We generate the energy required for this with three heat pumps of only 30 kW each. In order to provide sufficient hot water at peak times, three buffer tanks of 2,000 liters each have been provided. About the cooperation and progress of the project, Heeren is only positive. "All partners kept their appointments, allowing everyone to work smoothly. Following the indoor installation, air ducts and piping, we started installing the heat pumps and air handling units on the roof in mid-April. These will be delivered tested and adjusted."
