The scaffolding and temporary support structures in the substructure of Het Dok were supplied and engineered by Matemco Auxiliary Structures. This specialist in integral supervision of the construction process was involved early in the process, so that the scaffolding/support for the shell and facade construction could be custom designed.
The supply and engineering of scaffolding and/or support equipment has become a real service specialism over the years, says Wim Robbertsen of Matemco. Working on the basis of Total Cost of Ownership and BIM is the order of the day for the Ede-based company. "If requested, we even work out a 3D principle of the scaffolding and supports in the preliminary phase. On this project, we made a 3D film prior to execution to gain maximum insight. We work with preferred partners for assembly when we do not perform it ourselves, as in Amsterdam-Noord. Our specialty is also part of chain integration. We check the built supports by design inspection upon request, just as a structural engineer checks the hull construction. Quality, safety and, of course, the logistics of construction are included in the plans."
Logically, this supplier should also be involved early in the process. In the case of Het Dok (already completed), Matemco applied its own proven Kwiksteiger support system; a modular system with universal components such as braces and brackets, so that the scaffolding system is multi-deployable and expandable, making it a unique selling point for Matemco. Robbertsen: "For example, the system is suitable for heavier loads - up to 75 kN per upright, flexible to apply and suitable for all issues." Matemco also applied other custom solutions at Het Dok, such as balcony supports integrated into the scaffolding, braid scaffolding, floor supports and heavy beams. In the future, Matemco hopes to also work out this type of work in 4D BIM (including the time factor). "We are ready for that. We believe this is going to help make construction more predictable."
