"The increase in green facades has increased the need for solution-oriented construction in this submarket," says founder Peter Huijbregts of stainless steel cable technology specialist Kabel Design from Oosterhout (NB). "We are mounting a structure for DC Lekkerland that is separate from the building, a freestanding facade made of steel that makes an actual contribution to the greening of the distribution center."
Distribution centers are often constructed of "soft" finishing materials such as sandwich panels. "It is not always possible to provide a targeted green solution, such as in a residential building against the facade construction," begins Huijbregts, who has been active with Kabel Design since 2006. The company supplies and assembles stainless steel cables, stainless steel mesh networks and stainless steel fabrics in a niche market that offers solutions for fall protection in addition to green guidance, for example.
In the case of DC Lekkerland, this is a stand-alone construction, which will soon be completely filled with greenery. "The construction that we are assembling, and partly already finished because it was also provided in Phase 1, is the first thing you see when you drive up," Huijbregts said. "A free-standing facade of steel, consisting of H-sections, cables and wire mesh of 950 square meters, almost ten meters in height and as big in volume as phase 1. In total, our construction can accommodate some 1,900 square meters of greenery. The complete construction is assembled with our own people."
The architect designs; Kabel Design makes it workable, continues Huijbregts. "We have the expertise and knowledge to advise as early as the design phase, provide total solutions and execute them. This also applies to other projects, such as green facades for residential buildings. There you can take an extra step with green guidance, such as counteracting the heating of the building. Fortunately, you also see more and more solutions like the above in the logistics world, implemented in proven cooperation with Remmers Bouwgroep."
