WEBO, with the Circular Element® nominated for the challenge "Overijssel Circular Innovation Top 20," which takes place during the Week of the Circular Economy. The Circular Element® is a nature-inspired facade system made of wood sourced from Urban Mining. By combining smart insulation and joining techniques, a fully circular and detachable facade can be realized.
On Tuesday, February 7, the finals of the Overijssel Circular Innovation Top 20 will take place at the Twentsche Foodhal in Enschede. During the meeting, visitors can vote for their favorite innovation, after which the public and jury prizes will be awarded. It is also possible to vote online via the livestream.
WEBO is a producer of wood frame facade elements and wooden window frames. The use of a biobased material such as wood is already sustainable and CO2-neutral. With the Circular Element® WEBO goes one step further: by applying techniques from nature and recycled wood. For example, the circular facade breathes like the skin of a grasshopper, keeping the house cool in summer and warm in winter. This principle is also known as "biomimicry. The wood for the cladding comes from old rafters, which is thermally preserved for longevity.
The materials with which the Circular Element® is constructed are detachably bonded, also known as "Design for Dissasembly (DfD). This allows the façade to be easily disassembled at the end of its use phase (up to 50 years), allowing the materials used to re-enter the chain. The Circular Element® is also anchored to the building without screws and nails, which means that the connection is no longer 'nail-proof'. This enables the reuse and leasing of a facade element in the future, which fits perfectly within a 'Product-as-a-Service' business model (PaaS).
Last year WEBO won the public award of the Overijssel Circular Innovation Top 20 with the Circular-Frame®. The company is positioning itself as "inventors in the carpentry industry" and is looking for innovations such as the Circular Element® continuously looking for solutions that contribute to a sustainable and circular future. WEBO sees this year's participation as a logical follow-up to last year's win, as the Circular-Frame® can be mounted as a component prefabricated in the Circular Element®.
