The Muse | 'Collaborating on high-quality, super sleek facades'

A fine example of cooperation with the facade partners. This is how Construction Care, manufacturer and supplier of plastic adjustment frames and pour-in frames, looks back on the work for The Muse in Rotterdam.

Construction Care designed, manufactured and supplied the set frames for the east and west facades of The Muse. In the substructure of these anthracite-colored facades, some set frames were installed on the job. The vast majority are incorporated into the precast concrete facade elements used to construct the tower. Metaglas electric sliding windows were installed in the set frames, as were Blitta's swing windows.

Integrated facade solution
The façade elements are from Decomo, a specialist in precast architectural concrete elements. Decomo entered into a close collaboration with Construction Care at a very early stage. "Together and in good consultation with Adviesburo Snijders, Blitta and Metaglas, we came up with a cost-efficient façade element that met the quality requirements and the architectural image," says Managing Director Freek Drop of Construction Care. "In the elements we integrated, under very small dimensional tolerances, our set frames. The windows from Metaglas and Blitta matched this seamlessly."

Constructive, durable and fireproof
The adjustment frames in the precast elements are made of fully foamed plastic. They are just as workable as wood and provide excellent insulation. Drop: "The structural frames are an important part of the transition from inside to outside. They contribute to the building construction and the wind and water tightness of the facade. Moreover, they comply with Fire Safety Class B. This is very important, as fire safety regulations for high-rise buildings are becoming increasingly stringent." The plastic structural frames and pour-in frames are produced lean, in order to achieve maximum value for the customer with minimal waste.

Super sleek image
To comply with the architectural image, the windows from Metaglas and Blitta were mounted inside the frame from the inside. "A special application," says Drop. "The architect did not want to see profiles of window frames in the facade. By mounting the window frames from the inside and by making the window recess in the outer leaf slightly smaller than the inner leaf, from the outside you only see architectural concrete and glass. That creates a super sleek image."

Deliver on time
Construction Care manufactured and delivered all the window frames. One part of the window frames went to the construction site just-in-time, and the other went to Decomo. Drop: "To keep the production process going at Decomo, it was crucial that we delivered on time. In good mutual cooperation, this went fine."

Meanwhile, Construction Care, also working closely with facade partners, is preparing for the adjacent high-rise CasaNova project.
