On August 26, Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Kajsa Ollongren the second part of the large sustainable student campus in Leiden. 467 affordable student housing units in Leiden. The minister was full of praise for the result achieved "Good and affordable housing near your education is very important. The Leiden Schans shows that when different parties join forces beautiful things are created. This makes an important contribution to housing students. And sustainable too." The highly sustainable student housing has been realized by VORM, Ballast Nedam and Syntrus Achmea, and all have since been rented out by student housing provider DUWO.

Campus thanks to broad collaboration

Two brand-new complexes with 218 and 249 student housing units, respectively, make up the second part of campus (Y)ours in Lammenschanspark. In 2015, the more than 600 homes of the first part were already in use. The campus was created thanks to the collaboration between the municipality of Leiden, VORM Ontwikkeling B.V., Ballast Nedam, Syntrus Achmea and DUWO. Ballast Nedam Development and VORM Ontwikkeling were selected by the municipality of Leiden for the development and realization of a student campus, (Y)ours Leiden. DUWO will rent, manage and maintain all the student housing on the campus . The design of the campus is by Mecanoo Architects.

Combination of sustainable systems

The new student housing on campus is extremely sustainable and totally ready for the energy transition. The two newest residential buildings are completely gas-free and very well insulated. Heating and hot tap water are provided by a combination of a heat pump boiler, a ventilation system with heat recovery and many solar panels on the roofs. The campus thus meets the sustainability requirements set by the municipality.

Fine place to live

The homes themselves are for the most part spacious studios with their own amenities. With rents of minimum € 254 and maximum € 319 (after deduction of rent allowance), they are quite affordable for the target group. DUWO board president, Heleen de Vreese adds: "Campus Yours proves that market parties can also realize affordable student housing. This sets an example for the sector, because housing associations cannot do it alone!" The campus is now a fine place to live for many hundreds of Leiden students, barely six minutes by bike from the historic center and with an NS station (Lammenschans) a few minutes' walk away.

Accessibility

The campus (Y)OURS Leiden is the new place in Leiden for students, starters and people moving on, conveniently located south of the historic center and easily accessible by bicycle, car and public transport. The location is a 5-minute drive from the A4 motorway, exit Zoeterwoude-Dorp. A mixed living environment with a high quality appearance form the basis for a socially sustainable campus. A top location for millenials. Paid parking is available in the immediate vicinity. NS railway station Leiden Lammenschans is 5 minutes walking distance from the location.
