TBI company ERA Contour will build the BUUR new construction project in Leidsche Rijn Centrum from 2020 on behalf of housing corporation Wonam and housing corporations Mitros and Portaal. On Friday, July 19, the parties signed a construction team agreement for this purpose. BUUR will include 454 rental apartments in 3 residential blocks with shared inner gardens. On the first floor, retail spaces will be realized for small-scale and social initiatives.
The BUUR project, previously known as Klein Leidsche Rijn, will be realized on the plot between Grauwaartsingel and Centrumboulevard, right next to Leidsche Rijn Centrum. A total of 454 apartments of various sizes will be built in three residential blocks. Two thirds of the apartments are intended for social rental, one third for medium rental. There will be an underground car park under the residential blocks, with communal inner gardens on top.
Creative meeting place for residents and visitors
Wonam is developing the plan in cooperation with Mitros and Portaal. Wonam is focusing mainly on the commercial part with the apartments in the middle rent and the commercial spaces in the plinth of the buildings. In the collaboration, Mitros and Portaal are responsible for the social rental apartments. Gerard Kohsiek, director of Wonam: "This cooperation has led to a beautiful and varied plan for this unique place, literally the connection between Leidsche Rijn and Utrecht. Besides the apartments, we are thinking of unpolished Utrecht concepts for the first floor. A place where local, small-scale, commercial and social initiatives can establish themselves. This will create a creative meeting place for residents and visitors of Leidsche Rijn and Utrecht."
Building on a postage stamp
BUUR is being realized as the last piece of the center of Leidsche Rijn. The project lies between the shopping center on one side and two elementary school on the other. There is also a through bicycle route and a bus lane along the future construction site. Logistically, this is quite a challenge for a builder. Jeroen Heijdra, director of ERA Contour: "We are delighted to be commissioned by these three parties to contribute to the realization of so much housing, intended for a specific target group, on this site. At ERA Contour we are used to building in the city, with an eye for the environment around the project. That is no different here, it really is building on a postage stamp. We are proud that Wonam, Mitros and Portaal have chosen us as a partner for the realization of the BUUR project partly on the basis of our logistics plan."
Construction starts in 2020
NWA Architects, Dam & Partners and JCAU are jointly responsible for designing the buildings. ERA Contour is expected to start construction in the summer of 2020.
