Much of the large earthmoving and everything related to the Blankenburg connection is being done by John Bunnik Grondverzet. It rents out excavators and shovels including the operator. Sister company Bunnik Verhuur is also supporting the project with the rental of various materials.

John Bunnik Grondverzet is based on forty years of experience. For more than 25 years, it has been a permanent partner of Ballast Nedam, which is part of the BAAK construction consortium. So this client knows exactly who is employed by Bunnik and what its skilled personnel can do. "The superintendents who run there know what they get from us and call up which machinist they want," says Perry Bunnik, company manager and son of the founder. "The cooperation with BAAK has been excellent. We are not a very large family business, but we get a lot of work done. There is good cooperation between Earthmoving and Rental, which allows us to respond well to complex situations. We are very proud to be able to collaborate on this gigantic project."
The work for the Blankenburg connection includes remediation of contaminated soil, creation of reinforced soil structures and processing of sludge from the tunnel. Bunnik: "The sludge is taken to a depot where it is sieved and stored. Later in the work it is mixed up and processed."

When necessary, equipment is adapted to the job. For example, the company has invested in big bag fillers to stack 4,000 big bags in a reinforced soil construction according to BAAK's design. "We also made the connections towards the A15. That happened over the weekend, work even continued at night. By now there is a connection from the A15 to the tunnel that is more than 20 meters high. We first excavated it to 6 meters and then built it up in layers. And we started there when everything was still flat. The amount of soil being processed is really special," Bunnik said.

Sister company Bunnik Verhuur, founded in 1995, assists the project with the rental of generators, light trucks, trench shoring, mini cranes up to 7 tons, well pumps and dirty water pumps. "We think along with our customers and give advice. We perform work for both large and small projects and companies. Traditionally, Rental focuses on the rental of well pumps under the motto: no matter how high the water is, Bunnik pumps everything dry again," Bunnik said. The range of rental equipment is now very diverse, as long as it has to do with ground, road and hydraulic engineering. "You can't think of anything, or we rent it out. If there is a need for specific solutions, we are happy to invest in them. BAAK is also making grateful use of our extensive range at the Blankenburg connection. This creates a nice synergy between our two companies. Clients always have a single point of contact for all materials and accessories. We are on standby 24/7."
