'Short lines of communication make this project special'

Contrary to what you might expect, the floors are not the last to be tiled. Gerson Molenaar of Imarco explains: "With any project, the question is what to do first: the interior walls or the floor? We insisted on laying the tile floor first. That way you get very tight connections everywhere. An additional advantage is that we don't have to cut tiles anywhere and you don't have to lay awkward strips anywhere. For the wall builder, the advantage is that his substrate is just as smooth and flat everywhere. And should a wall be moved in the future, you don't have to deal with a different tile pattern."

Serious formats

Imarco started the tiling on the floor. This will be followed by the rest of the showroom and the workshop. There will be 60×120 cm and 100×100 cm ceramic tiles in the showroom and 20×20 cm tiles in the workshop. The tile types and color are prescribed by Porsche. "That has rock-hard guidelines that you have to work with," Molenaar agrees. "Certainly those 60×120 tiles are seriously hefty sizes and therefore quite laborious. But you know that when you take on a job like this."

That there is underfloor heating throughout the building does not matter to Imarco's work. "As long as the subfloor is flat enough and the correct heating protocol has been followed, we can glue the tiles neatly to the substrate. The flatness is especially important with such large tiles, but so far everything is laying nicely."

Short lines

It is not so much the work or the materials that make the work in Deventer special for Imarco, but the direct short lines of communication between the client and all other construction parties. Molenaar: "Also in the preliminary process. From the beginning the relationship was good and we felt very strongly that we were being listened to. But also to the expertise of other subcontractors. Everyone was brought together to coordinate the work and the sequence of work, to deliver everything as efficiently and beautifully as possible. We really don't experience that on all projects."
